Distance Learning: Positive and Negative Space

Hi everyone! This week we are looking at artworks made using positive and negative space. Watch this video to learn a bit more.

Activity One: Cut-Out Paper Patterns

Watch the video to learn one way to use paper cuts to explore positive and negative space in your artworks. There are so many different ways that you can use cut-outs, have a go and see what other ideas that you come up with.

For this activity you will need:

  • two pieces of paper the same size (you will cut on in half)

  • scissors

  • pencil or pen

  • glue

Here is another way of making a paper-cut that explores positive and negative space. I used felt pens to make patterns on one piece of paper and painted the second piece black.
