Little Painted Frogs
Today was a fun froggy filled day with the New Entrants. We read books about frogs, watched clips about frogs and even sung songs about frogs - there are more than you would think!
I demonstrated the basic shapes needed to draw a frog and the students drew the outline in black crayon. Next was the fun part - mixing paint! I always ask children to mix their own secondary colours, no matter how young.
For some kids this was their first time mixing green. We talked about how the colour would look different depending on how much blue or yellow they mixed in. They had a fabulous time mixing different greens and loved sharing their paint creations with their classmates.
The next step was to dye the backgrounds of the artworks with blue dye. Earlier the students had used white crayon to draw little flies or stars in the background of their work. Kids always love seeing the bright white crayon appear through the dye.
Look at this cute little frogs! Each one has it’s own little personality. It was a lovely day working with the wee kids, I love how the new entrant children are always so enthusiastic when trying out new things.
