Colour Wheel Chameleons

Today Sophie’s class investigated colour theory and explored how the placement of colour can impact their artworks. The students studied the primary, secondary and tertiary colours before learning about complementary and analogous colour schemes.
The class read the story ‘Chameleons are Cool’ by Martin Jenkins to look at examples of how they could apply colour theory. They examined the illustrations by Sue Shields and made detailed anatomy sketches of the different types of chameleons.
The students considered what they had learnt about colour theory when they planned their artwork. They chose an analogous colour scheme for their chameleon and a complementary colour scheme for the background. They used the anatomy sketches to guide their final drawings.
The students painted their chameleons using watercolour paints, paying careful attention to being precise and deliberate with their brushstrokes. The resulting artworks are bright, colourful and super cute. Enjoy!
