Cartoon Fun with Rimurimu
Today was my first day back teaching in Rimurimu with the Year 3 and 4 students. Usually I would be teaching the spelling programme but today we gave the students a fun day focussed on creativity and wellbeing. The students rotated through three different lessons over the course of the day - science, maths and art.
I ran a cartooning session that followed on from the most recent distance learning activity that I posted for the students. The aim of the lesson was to use cartoon drawing techniques to make a range of characters with different facial features. We looked a couple of examples, including some of the work of illustrator Chris Piascik, and talked about the different characters and how they were drawn.
The students then had a go themselves. This lesson was a very chilled out, relaxed session with no pressure for the work to be finished or any expectation that it would need to be shared with an audience. I absolutely love seeing young artists express their personalities and imaginations through art. The artworks below are only a handful of the super creative work that happened today in Rimurimu. I can’t wait to work with Rimurimu again soon.
